The presenter told listeners on her Thursday morning programme she was staying put, quashing reports that she would do just one more year of the show.

An article in Thursday's edition of The Sun claims the DJ star is poised to step down after a year and move to another slot.

But the Bolton-born presenter told listeners: "I'm not going anywhere, so don't panic."

New contract

Last year Cox, 27, signed a new three-year contract with Radio 1 - said to be worth £1m - which starts shortly.

It keeps her in the Breakfast Show slot for a further year, but on Thursday Cox insisted she intended to stay beyond that time.

She said: "I've got a new three-year contract that starts in April which will keep me doing the show for at least another year after that - and I'm not thinking of leaving then."

The former TV presenter - a co-host of Channel 4's The Girlie Show - took over the Breakfast Show from Zoe Ball nearly three years ago.

Listeners lost

Married to club DJ Jon Carter, Cox was a model before becoming a presenter.

She had a slot on The Big Breakfast before joining Radio 1 in September 1999 to work on a lunchtime weekend show, followed swiftly by her appointment to the top morning programme.

Her new contract appeared to show faith in the presenter, whose show has lost up to 700,000 listeners in the last year.
