White, 58, is battling against kidney failure while doctors conduct tests to find a suitable donor from one of his eight children.

White - known as the Walrus of Love for his large frame, deep voice and classic love songs - was admitted to hospital in September but is now at home.

He undergoes dialysis every other day on an out-patient basis.

White has suffered years of high blood pressure, which has damaged his kidney.

The singer's manager Ned Shanker said he was having his blood pressure monitored by medical staff.

"He's doing really great. I was with him last night, and things are going really well," Mr Shanker added.

Mr Shanker said it seemed hopeful that a donor kidney could be found among White's children.

"He's got eight kids," Mr Shanker said. "They're doing tests. I don't think we're going to be doing a nationwide search. I think we've got it pretty well covered."

Seduction

White's label, the Island Def Jam Music Group, said in September that White was having dialysis treatment for kidney failure, brought on by a long history of hypertension.

In 1995, White was admitted to hospital for hypertension, which was put down to a busy tour schedule.

He went to hospital again in 1999, when the cancellation of a number of shows was also blamed on high blood pressure.

Also affectionately dubbed The Love Man, White's music has become a stereotypical soundtrack for seduction.

In a career spanning 30 years, he has sold more than 100 million albums around the world.

He created the Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1972 and the following year, they made the single that is considered by many critics the first genuine disco hit - Love's Theme.

A string of hits followed over the next few years, including You're the First, the Last, My Everything, and Can't Get Enough of Your Love Babe.
