P Diddy is nominated for best hip-hop artist
Eminem, Coldplay and Kylie Minogue are among seven acts nominated for four prizes at this year's MTV Europe awards.

Coldplay are nominated for best group, but will face a battle from U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park and No Doubt.

I want you to be able to feel the energy through your television sets

Coldplay are also up for the best album prize, alongside Eminem, Kylie, No Doubt and Pink.

Unveiling the nominations, rap star P Diddy promised to excite and entertain viewers when he hosts the ceremony in November.

"It doesn't get any sexier than this - MTV, Barcelona and Diddy."

"We're going to have a big old party and there's not going to be a dull moment," Diddy said.

Chart-topper Pink, Spanish heart-throb Enrique Iglesias, Colombian singer Shakira and Norwegian dance group Royksopp also have four nominations each.

The best UK and Ireland category will be contested by Ms Dynamite, Atomic Kitten, Coldplay, Sugababes and Underworld.

There are also categories for the best acts from nine other European countries - including Romania, Poland and Russia.

The gongs will be handed out in front of 13,000 fans in Barcelona on 14 November.

The show will see an exclusive performance of material from Robbie Williams' new album, Escapology.

Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Holly Valance and Sugababes will be there to hand out awards.

'Diddy style'

P Diddy is nominated himself for best hip-hop artist.

The rapper, record label boss and fashion designer said viewers watching the show on MTV would not be bored.

He added: "I want you to be able to feel the energy through your television sets," he said.

"I've plans to make this the best one yet and we're going to try things that have never been done before. We're going to do it Diddy style."

In 2001, Gorillaz, Craig David and Limp Bizkit won two awards each when the ceremony was held in Frankfurt, Germany.
