Alien Ant Farm driver dies in crash
Alien Ant Farm had a UK hit with Smooth Criminal
A Welsh tour bus driver has been killed and the singer with rock band Alien Ant Farm has been detained in hospital after a crash in Spain.
Six crew members were also injured when their tour bus collided with a truck 120 miles west of Madrid in the early hours of the morning, record label DreamWorks said in a statement. Singer Dryden Mitchell has been kept under observation for a neck injury in a hospital in the town of Navalmoral de la Mata, where the collision occurred, band spokesman Jose Puig said.
The driver who died in the crash has been named as 26-year-old Chistopher Holland from Crofty, near Swansea.
A second driver was still in hospital. However, guitarist Terry Corso, bassist Tye Zamora and drummer Mike Cosgrove have been released. Mitchell sustained back injuries, Corso had a broken ankle, Zamora had foot injuries, and Cosgrove suffered cuts and bruises. 'Condolences' The group were travelling to Lisbon, Portugal, from Luxembourgh as part of a 10-date European tour, for a concert due to take place on Wednesday. Most of the band and crew were asleep in their bunks at the time of the accident. Manager John Boyle said: "We send our condolences and prayers to the family of the driver and our prayers are with David in hopes that he has a full recovery. "We're obviously very fortunate and thankful the band and crew survived the accident." An appearance at Madrid's Festimad festival on Friday has also been cancelled, as well as a performance on Saturday at a rock festival in Washington DC. The band were founded in Riverside, California, in 1996. Their cover of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal was a top five hit in the UK in autumn 2001. |
