Leigh tops London critics' choice
All or Nothing is a bittersweet tale of family life
Mike Leigh's film All or Nothing, starring Timothy Spall, is leading the nominations for the London Film Critics' Awards with five mentions.
Leigh is nominated as best British director, best British screenwriter and the film itself is competing for best British movie. Click here to see the nominations in full Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition, starring Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, and Ken Loach's Sweet Sixteen, starring Martin Compston, both have three nominations. Road to Perdition is up for best film, along with Australian film Lantana, independent films About Schmidt and Donnie Darko, and documentary Bowling for Columbine. The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in London on 12 February. Sir Michael Caine is up for best actor for his role in The Quiet American, an adaptation of a Graham Greene novel, while Halle Berry's Oscar-winning performance in Monster's Ball is recognised with a best actress nod.
The comedy About A Boy, starring Hugh Grant, and Sweet Sixteen will compete with All or Nothing in the best British film category. In the acting categories, Samantha Morton, Miranda Richardson and Lesley Manville are in the running for best British actress. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hugh Grant and Ralph Fiennes are competing for the best British actor award. The nominations in full:
