In Pictures: Summer Exhibition
The Royal Academy of Art's prestigious Summer Exhibition 2002 has opened to the public.
The exhibition covers many art genres including paintings, sculptures and drawings and chosen from 12,000 submitted works of art. The majority of the works are for sale, vying for prizes worth £50,000.
The Dance Academy: Allen Jones has an international reputation as a painter, sculptor and printmaker
Vertical Lines: Sir Terry Frost began painting as a prisoner of war and exhibits regularly in London
Contrasting images evident in Gerald Hemsworth's Rabbit with Flowers and Allen Jones RA's Refrigerator works
Stanley Road: Peter Blake was honoured with a CBE for his services to art
Imminent Eclipse 2002: Ken Draper has exhibited in the US and the UK with paintings and sculptures
Gold Fire Bridge: Maurice Cockrill was an artist in residence at an Australian university and a visiting RA schools tutor
Montsegur: Donald Hamilton Fraser was honorary curator at the Royal Academy until 2000, and raises money for artist funds
The works in the summer exhibition have been chosen by a panel of experts from 12,000 submissions
