Student arrested in college drug search
Police sniffer dogs and their handlers
Police were called in to search students for drugs
A student has been arrested after police were allowed into a Leicestershire college in the fight against drugs.

Officers and a sniffer dog visited Beauchamp College in Oadby, on Friday January 17, as part of the college's ongoing anti-drug abuse policy.

A 15-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of theft and intent to supply drugs.

A small amount of drugs and what is believed to be a stolen credit card, have been recovered by police .

Drug dealing

The team searched classrooms and observed more than 200 students.

Sergeant Paul Mansfield of Wigston local policing unit said:"It is the first time we have used a sniffer dog in an operation like this."

"Drug dealing and misuse will not be tolerated.

"Operations like this will be used from time to time so the message to everyone is clear."

Staff at the college were also involved and students were given prior warning that officers would be coming on campus.

Maureen Cruickshank, college principal, said:"Governors and staff have always been determined to do all they can to ensure a drug free environment for students on the college campus.

"It is for this reason that we have sought police help."
