Extra police for Steel City derby
Police dealt with violent scenes earlier in the season
Extra police officers will be on duty for the derby match between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday following violence at the last derby match.
The force wants to avoid a repeat of the scenes in the city centre when fans went on the rampage after September's game. Trouble also flared up at the end of Sheffield United's Worthington Cup clash with Yorkshire rivals Leeds earlier in the season. A police spokesman said there would be a high profile police presence in place for the Steel City derby between the Division One sides. Court action He said: "We are appealing to people without tickets to stay away. They won't get in to the game. "We will not tolerate any fans breaking the law and spoiling other people's enjoyment of the match. "They could face court action and the possibilty of being banned from future matches. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, with congestion likely. The match kicks offf at 1945 GMT on 17 January at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane ground. |
