MP to discuss illegal firearms
Gun
Mr Mahmood calls for guns to be taken off the streets
The MP for the Birmingham constituency where two teenage girls were shot dead is urging the government to look at the flow of illegal firearms coming into the country.

Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood will be talking to the Home Office minister for policing, John Denham, about the rise in gun crime in his constituency.

The meeting follows the murder of the two girls at a party in Aston just over a week ago.

At a recent conference about gun crime in London, the Home Secretary David Blunkett announced a firearms amnesty is to be put in place.

Gun crime

Mr Mahmood says he will be telling Mr Denham that it is vital guns are taken off the streets.

"Gun crime has risen in the area and that is something that needs to be addressed," he said.

"This is largely because of the issue of drugs and the accessibility of guns.

"Gun crime is something that I'm going to be specifically talking about with John Denham.

"Crime in general has dropped in the area and we have figures to prove that."
