Marina extension under scrutiny
The Oliver Cromwell Boat at the marina in Upton-on-Severn
The marina already has 280 berths for boats
A plan to extend a marina with dozens of new apartments and chalets has been backed by councillors.

The £3m scheme is an extension of the marina at Upton-on-Severn, in Malvern.

A total of 60 apartments and 45 wooden chalets will be built as part of the plan.

Although planning officers recommended its rejection - local councillors said they welcomed the scheme.

A meeting of Malvern Hills District Council's planning committee deferred a final decision on the project but asked officials to have a fresh look at the proposals.

Head of development for Malvern Hills District Council David Murray said the apartments and chalets would be for tourists.

"The council carried out a survey which showed a need for self-catering accommodation in this area which is very popular with tourists," he said.

The marina already has 280 berths for boats and the extension will mean an extra 120 berths.
