Winter vomiting bug closes wards
Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Visitors are being urged to stay away from the hospital
A Norfolk hospital is urging friends and family of patients not to visit medical wards as staff deal with an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

Five medical wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital have been closed to admissions and transfers in order to contain the outbreak.

The outbreak is also affecting the hospital's ability to manage the number of patients who require admission for surgery.

The hospital said 66 patients and nine staff have so far been identified as being infected by the virus.

Once the first case was identified, the control of infection team brought in measures such as extensive hand washing, use of alcohol rub and the control of patient and staff movements.
