Body found in city centre
Police car
Police are searching for clues to the man's identity
Police investigating the discovery of a man's body in Derby city centre say they believe they know who he is.

He is thought to be a 60-year-old homeless man, who is originally from the Nottingham area, although his identity has yet to be confirmed.

A post-mortem examination that was carried on Tuesday proved inconclusive and further tests are needed to find out how he died.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police called

Detectives had sealed off part of Beckett Street, following the discovery on Monday.

He was found shortly after 0800 GMT near to the Wilkins Memorial Hall.

Initially ambulance crews were alerted, but the police were then called in.

Near hostel

The inquest is likely to take place next week.

The dead man was found just a few yards from one of the three hostels for the homeless in the city.

All of them say they are unable to take people for a night or two at short notice.
