A family from Worksop in Nottinghamshire are £600 out of pocket after their car was towed away by clampers - despite having a disabled sticker.

The car had been left in a residential street in Birmingham while they were at a football match.

But they missed a clamping sign on a wall, and the vehicle was taken away.

The family say the bill reached £600 with clamping, towing and storage charges combined with train fares.

Trevor Holt said he could not collect the car immediately after the match because the clamping firm was closed.

Mr Holt's family, including two children, had to take the train home and return later to collect the vehicle.

His disabled brother-in-law Philip Eccleston was on the football trip.

He said: "They know people who are disabled can't walk very far, so they should give a little leeway to us.

"After the clamping, towing, match tickets, train fare and storage charge, it has cost us a good £700. It is pathetic really."

IPSG Controlled Parking said in a statement: "This was private land owned by a housing association and it was clearly signed.

"We followed all the proper procedures."
