Pedestrian's death was accident
BBC inquest graphic
The death of a man knocked down by an unmarked police car was an accident, an inquest has decided.

Nigel Mantinieks suffered a severe head injury and died five days after the incident in December last year.

An inquest jury has returned a verdict of accidental death.

The 44-year-old, of Norwood Avenue, Didsbury, was walking home from a night out when he was hit as he crossed Fog Lane, Didsbury.

The police car driver and passenger claimed Mr Mantinieks fell backwards into their path after emerging from behind a parked car.

The officers said their car, which was following another vehicle, was travelling at about 40mph in a 30mph zone.

But they added it was not being driven dangerously.
