Man charged over Whiting attack
Roy Whiting and Sarah Payne
Child killer Roy Whiting and his victim Sarah Payne
A prisoner at Wakefield top security jail has been charged over an attack on the murderer of schoolgirl Sarah Payne

The high-profile prisoner Roy Whiting had been slashed across the face with a razor blade embedded in a bar of soap.

Whiting was attacked with the makeshift weapon in the jail on Sunday, 4 August.

He suffered a serious wound to the side of his face and had to be treated at Pinderfields hospital - under guard - to have it stitched.

A man, aged 32, has now been charged with wounding.

No date has yet been set for a court appearance.

The Home Secretary David Blunkett confirmed Whiting will serve at least 50 years in prison for the murder of Sarah Payne.
