Cars destroyed in base blaze
Cars ablaze
The new cars were being stored at the old base
Twelve new cars stored at a former air base have been destroyed by fire.

Four RAF firefighting teams fought the blaze at RAF Alconbury in Cambridgeshire on Thursday night.

The military crews more than an hour to get water on to the flames at the former US base.

The delay was because the American-installed hydrants were difficult to find.

Elsewhere, four retained firefighter crews tackled a major fire in a warehouse in St Ives.

Two crews from St Ives, and others from Sutton and Chatteris went to Lordgate Engineering on London Road at 2030GMT.

The cause is under investigation, but it is not thought to have been started deliberately.
