Paramedics tried to revive driver Margaret Hogan, 85, but she died at the scene on Thursday afternoon.

Her 74-year-old passenger, Diana Rosemary Haslam, who was a front seat passenger in the Golf, was taken to hospital but later died.

Ms Hogan's Volkswagen Golf collided with a Seat as she pulled out from London Road and turned right onto the A287 Odiham bypass at 1530 GMT.

Bruised ribs

Police closed three kilometres of the road for three hours afterwards while they searched for clues.

The Seat driver, a 38-year-old man from Fleet, was treated at Frimley Park Hospital for a cut to his forehead and bruised ribs.

Ms Hogan lived at High Street, Odiham and Ms Haslam lived at Farm Lane in Crondall, Farnham.

Traffic police at Farnborough are appealing for witnesses.

A police spokesman said: "This was a tragic accident.

"It happened as the Golf car pulled out from London Road at a T-junction with the Odiham bypass, near Hook.

"We would urge any witnesses to contact police."
