Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in car crash in Manchester in the early hours of Wednesday.

The two-car collision in Fallowfield left another driver with head injuries.

Fire crews had to use cutting equipment to release the men from the wreckage after the crash at 0240 GMT on Wilmslow Road.

Greater Manchester Police said an accident investigation into how the Fiat Punto and BMW 318 collided is underway.

A man in his 40s, who was driving the blue Punto, died at the scene of the crash near the junction with Cawdor Road.

The driver of the silver BMW was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary after he was taken out of the wreckage.
