Estate calls for more help
Hamilton estate
New houses are stretching the estate's facilites
Residents of a Leicester housing estate are calling for plans to develop the estate to be speeded up.

The Hamilton estate is rapidly expanding but families say they have been left with too few facilities to cope.

Members of the public are meeting the city council on Friday night to discuss ways of creating more amenities in the Hamilton area.

The estate has one supermarket and one school.

Few facilities

It was developed on grass land, north of the city in the 1980's and there are now more than 1,000 people living there.

The problem has become more acute with 200 more houses being built.

Residents now feel there are too few facilities for the community.

No timetable

The school is now full and many people feel the single supermarket will be inadequate.

The city council has plans to add another school to the Hamilton area, a library and a leisure centre.

But the plans have no timetable to say when they will be built.

The Hamilton Residents Action Group, formed from dissatisfied residents, has asked to meet with the city council to find out exactly when the new facilities are likely to be in place.

The meeting will take place at the Hamilton Community College.
