Drug campaign a success, say police

Different drugs were seized in the raids
A campaign by police on Teesside to cut down on drugs dealing is claiming further success with a new series of arrests.

Cleveland Police have hit the 350-arrest mark in their Dealer a Day scheme, launched in December 2001.

Officers say 10 people have been arrested, and a large quantity of drugs seized, in the past week.

Inspector Gary Gamesby of Cleveland Police, said: "We rely heavily on information from the public - we would ask them to keep please phoning us."

Crack cocaine

The arrests include a 23-year-old man who was charged with possession of cannabis and a 39-year-old man charged with possession of amphetamine.

Both have been bailed to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court at a later date.

Four people were arrested pending forensic results, three have been dealt with by the immigration service and one woman was released without any further police action.

Crack cocaine, heroin, amphetamine and cannabis were also recovered during the raids.

Narcotics with a street value of over £140,000 have been recovered and nearly £75,000 in cash seized since the campaign began 10 months ago.
