Homes blacked out after fire
Fire engine
Around 50 firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze
More than 100 homes have been left without power following a factory fire in Leicester - the second in the city in three days.

The fire at Vends Fabrics on Warren Street was still smouldering early on Monday afternoon and has left 109 households without power.

Some residents on Warren Street and Vaughan Street had been asked to leave their homes as a precautionary measure.

It is not known what caused the fire at this stage - a fire investigation team is at the scene.

Billowing smoke

At the height of the fire around 50 firefighters , eight pumps and five special appliances worked to prevent the flames spreading to adjacent buildings.

Rose Wyther lives close to the scene of the fire.

She said: "I first noticed the fire at about 6 am, then I saw the fire engine coming in over the hill.

"There was smoke billowing out of the factory and it looked like the towering inferno.

Second fire

"The people nearby were evacuated and the pub on the corner opened to take them in. "

The owner of the business says there was an attempted break in on Friday afternoon.

Officials from East Midlands Electricity say it is unclear at this time when power will be restored.

This is the second fire in the same area in three days.

True Colours Dyers on Bath Lane was badly damaged in a major fire on Saturday.
