The volunteers built walkways and fences for the garden
A group of volunteers has transformed a piece of unused ground in Leicester.

The group specialises in organising projects for the over 50s.

The event was part of the Experience Corps' What Can I Do Day?

The event aimed to improve the estate

Joe Bennett from Braunstone Garden Care said: "Basically it's going to be a place were the people of Braunstone can come and see a little bit of the countryside on their doorstep."

The plans were to build a therapeutic sheltered community garden

The volunteers cleared undergrowth and opened up areas for planting.

They also built fences, walkways and decorative features.

Organisers said they hoped the work would be continued after the event so the garden could grow to maturity.

Many volunteers said they wanted to give something back to the organisation and help improve the troubld estate at the same time.
