Battered cod off the menu
Plentiful hoki has replaced the dwindling cod
A hotel in Suffolk resort has taken cod off the menu in a gesture to help conserve dwindling stocks.
Diners at The Crown in Southwold are being offered hoki - a New Zealand fish with a similar taste - instead. Peter Page, from Adnams, the brewery which owns the hotel, says it is an important step in the right direction. He says the cod needs protection with overfishing leaving stocks close to collapse.
