The Jersey Democratic Alliance party's ruling council has voted in Deputy Geoff Southern, but that has yet to be agreed by party members.

The party was set up in April this year and now is preparing its first annual general meeting on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, another political party has been formed: the Centre Party.

Since being first set up, the Jersey Democratic Alliance has lost two of its leading lights to ill health.

Both Senator Ted Vibert and the Reverend Tony Keogh have had to step down, while Senator Paul Le Claire has resigned.

The meeting is being held at the Town Hall at 1900 BST on Tuesday. At least 200 members are expected to attend.

Meanwhile, the Centre Party has been formed by a number of people who say party politics will be needed when Jersey moves to a ministerial system of government at the end of the year.

Larry Adams, the local managing director of a computer design company, has been elected as chairman.
