Attempt to cut tax on goods fails
Politicians have rejected an attempt to make certain items exempt from the new Goods and Service Tax in Jersey.

It was the second time Senator Stuart Syvret has tried to prevent the tax being levied on food, children's clothes, books or medicines.

During a States debate on Wednesday, the senator claimed it would relieve some of the effects of the tax on poorer islanders.

The new 3% tax is due to be introduced in three years time.
