A Jersey politician has condemned plans to make the partners of States Members declare their non-financial interests.
St Helier Deputy Jerry Dorey claims the plans to avoid potential conflicts of interest are a step too far.
In future Members may have to declare their partners' interests - even if they are not financial - in a subject being debated.
Deputy Dorey said he was concerned about the impact on the privacy of the partners concerned.
The Deputy says when politicians enter public life they become to some extent public property, but they need to treat with caution the idea of extending that principle into their loved ones' private lives.
