Young people in Jersey have asked to be consulted more in decision-making.
The Youth Council met on Tuesday night to discuss why younger people were not involved more in a decision to raise the legal age of buying cigarettes
The council said it was not against the limit going up from 16 to 18, but that youngsters should have had more say.
The Health and Public Services department said it would have consulted the council, but it did not exist when the decision was made.
Steve Harvey, of Health and Public Services, said he thought there should be more communication between professionals and younger people in the island and said they would be consulted in the future.
