Centre needs £1m
People living in the Jersey parish of St Saviour are to be asked whether they should borrow £1m from the States to finish a new community centre.

The Falle family has given land worth £1m to get the project off the ground, but organisers are still £1m short.

An anonymous donor has also given £500,000 to get building work under way.

If the States help fund the project, it is hoped the centre will be finished by the end of next year.

St Saviour Constable Philip Ozouf said the centre was essential for the community.

He said: "It's been a long time coming. We are very grateful to the Falle trust who have given us this land.

"Ever since I became Constable, I have been looking for a site in this particular area.

"But there are a lot of housing estates round here and no facilities so the need is great for this community centre."
