Guernsey Post has insisted that the service is improving, after figures showed it lost £800,000 between 2002 and 2003.
Managing director Mike Hall said the losses stemmed from increased charges levied on it by Royal Mail.
The company also moved into a new building and bought new equipment.
Mr Hall said the service was meeting most performance targets set by regulators and expected to break even next year.
