New ferry services to start
Catamaran
The jet catamaran will operate a daily service
New ferry services between Jersey and ports in Normandy are due to start on Thursday.

The new services are the result of an initiative from the local government in the Manche region of Normandy.

It is understood the first service will start in Thursday between St Helier and the port of Granville.

It is believed a jet catamaran - capable of carrying 356 passengers at a speed of 33 knots - will operate a daily service.

Quayside celebrations

The inaugural service will be marked with quayside celebrations - and traditional sailing ships - at St Helier from 1200 on Thursday.

No details have yet been released about a possible service between Gorey to Portbail and Carteret, via Guernsey and Sark.

However, it is understood the ferry company, Societé de Navigation de Normandie, which is linked to Connex, will operate a boat called Victor Hugo.

The vessel is a high-speed propeller catamaran capable of carrying about 200 passengers.
