The first ferry link in more than eight years linking Guernsey, Alderney and mainland France will begin operating this summer.
French company SNN will re-establish the route in July to the Cherbourg Peninsula.
High speed catamarans will carry up to a 190 passengers on a triangular route between the Bailiwick and the French port of Dielette.
Friday's announcement to reinstate the service is aimed at boosting tourism and encouraging cultural exchanges with the Channel Islands.
Five-year commitment
In 1992 135,000 passengers travelled to France compared with just under 40,000 last year.
In 2002, the company applied for a licence for a year-round service but was turned down because its ferries were deemed unsuitable.
Now, two vessels have been brought in which meet the necessary regulations.
