Overcrowding problems at Jersey's prison could be eased with the introduction of electronic tagging next month.
The scheme will allow up to 30 offenders to be released and fitted with ankle devices.
The system should mean Jersey prisoners in UK prisons can be brought back to the island, which will save money.
La Moye Prison is meant to hold about 150 prisoners but there are currently about 170, with 25 serving sentences in the UK because of overcrowding on the island.
Home curfew
It will be the first time an electronic tagging system has ever been used on the island.
Offenders on the release scheme have to stay in their home during certain curfew hours.
A monitor in the home will detect the ankle tag and cause an alert if the offender leaves the house.
The introduction of tagging confirms a recommendation made in a Home Affairs review last year.
The company Securicor has won the contact to monitor the tagging system.
