New chaplain needs to increase workload
A young offender
The new chaplain needs to increase time with inmates
Jersey's outgoing prison chaplain says his replacement needs to spend more time with inmates.

Captain John Le Page will step down from his post at La Moye in July.

He says his successor needs to be available for 18 hours every week - he was only there for six.

Captain Le Page feels the role of chaplain at the prison is a unique one.

Spiritual needs

He looks not just at the spiritual needs of offenders, but also at the total person and their family.

Captain Le Page has also been heavily involved with the Communicare Centre in St Brelade for the past 27 years.

In his work there he has helped with everything from baby clinics and play groups, to the youth club and activities for senior citizens.

He and his wife are to leave the island and retire in Spain where he has already set up a connection with a church who he will work with.
