Pier gets licence to sell alcohol

The Grand Pier
The pier will have five bars in total

Alcohol is to be sold on the revamped Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare for the first time in decades.

The new owners, Kerry and Michelle Michael, have been granted a drinks licence by North Somerset Council.

It allows them to open four bars in the pavilion, and one at the entrance to the pier.

The quarter-of-a-mile-long pier attracts thousands of visitors a year, and has changed hands only three times in its 104-year history.
