A group of allotments thought to be contaminated by dangerous levels of arsenic have been given the all clear.
The allotments in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, were sealed off last year when tests showed unusual levels of arsenic, chromium and cadmium.
But further examination has revealed the land is safe for horticulture.
The 20 allotment tenants will be compensated by Melton Borough Council and allowed to move back to the site when drainage work has been completed.
Arthur Howett, allotment owner, said: "It is sad to see the allotments in such a state.
"All my vegetables were organic but it will take me months to get the allotment back in shape.
