Arsenic found in allotments
High levels of arsenic have been found at allotments in Leicestershire.

Melton Borough Council say flowers grown at the site at Lake Terrace, in Melton Mowbray, are safe but vegetables may have to be thrown away.

The council says the arsenic occurs naturally but levels in the plots in Melton are between the base and optimum level and need investigating.

Samples have been sent away for further tests and are expected back within the next few weeks.

Allotment users have been sent letters warning of the problem after officers from the environmental health found the potentially dangerous levels.
