Victory for beach hut owners
The council has backed down over the huts
Beach hut owners at a Suffolk resort have been told their seaside retreats can stay.
Owners of the 58 huts at Manor End in Felixstowe had been told the site was needed for a coastal garden as part of a redevelopment plan. They were going to have to move out when leases on the land expired next year. But now councillors have decided the huts can stay. Suffolk Coastal District Council had wanted to get rid of the huts to make nearby land it owns more attractive to developers. Owners of huts, who had been told to remove them by March, have welcomed the about-turn. Many of them are families who have used them for decades and had promised not to give up their plots without a fight. |
