The Chancellor has unveiled his Comprehensive Spending Review. BBC News Online has full coverage of Gordon Brown's speech and reaction to it.

The speech

Gordon Brown in the Commons

Chancellor Gordon Brown has promised an extra 60 billion pounds to improve our public services, with the biggest amounts going to schools and transport. But all of this comes at a price, he says there must be reform and change too.

School spending

The Chancellor's main focus was on education. He's allocated an extra 15 billion pounds for Britain's classrooms, with 150 thousand pounds for every secondary school in the country.

Chancellor Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown has been insisting that the economy is still in a healthy state, and that recent problems like sliding stock-markets will not affect his public spending plans. In a three part series the BBC's Economics Editor Evan Davies looks at what is at stake.

The government's plans for future spending are published on 15 July
