Asking a question
Here we will learn to ask a question in the past tense. With most verbs all you have to do is change the tone of your voice to a questioning one. Remember that 'chi' is the polite form, and 'ti' is informal.| Seiclaist ti i'r ysgol. | You cycled to school. | | Seiclaist ti i'r ysgol? | Did you cycle to school? | | Nofioch chi ddoe. | You swam yesterday. | | Nofioch chi ddoe? | Did you swim yesterday? |
If, however, the verb begins with T, C, P, B, G, D, Ll, M or Rh it has a soft mutation to show that it is a question. | Talaist ti'r bil. | Dalaist ti'r bil? (Did you pay the bill?) | | Canaist ti yn y cyngerdd. | Ganaist ti yn y cyngerdd? (Did you sing in the concert?) | | Peintiaist ti'r llun. | Beintiaist ti'r llun? (Did you paint the picture?) | | Bwytaist ti dy ginio. | Fwytaist ti dy ginio? (Did you eat your lunch?) | | Gwelaist ti'r ffilm. | Welaist ti'r ffilm? (Did you see the film?) | | Darllenaist ti'r llyfr. | Ddarllenaist ti'r llyfr? (Did you read the book?) | | Lliwiaist ti'r darlun. | Liwiaist ti'r darlun? (Did you colour the picture?) | | Mwynheuaist ti'r gêm. | Mwynheuaist ti'r gêm? (Did you enjoy the game?) | | Rhedaist ti. | Redaist ti? (Did you run?) |
