When we describe objects we need to remember 2 things:
1) In Welsh the adjective comes after the noun. For example, red car - car coch
2) All nouns are either feminine or masculine.
If the object described is feminine the adjective that follows it mutates. It is a soft mutation; here's how the letters change:
t d,
c g,
p b,
b f,
g letter is dropped,
ll l,
m f,
rh r.
| Masculine | Feminine |
| Crys du | Blows ddu |
| Trwser coch | Sgert goch |
| Jîns glas | Ffrog las |
| Tei pinc | Sgert binc |
| Sgarff porffor | Het borffor |
| Trôns llwyd | Esgid lwyd |
| Fest brown | Maneg frown |
If the adjective follows a plural it doesn't mutate:
We say esgid goch (red shoe)
but esgidiau coch (red shoes)
