Shopping
In this section we will concentrate on shopping.
When you do things as a habit or as a rule you say in Welsh bydda i E.g. Mi fydda i'n siopa - I (usually) shop. Mi fydda i'n prynu - I (usually) buy. Here's a list of the full forms: | Mi fydda i | | Mi fyddi di | | Mi fydd hi | | Mi fydd o | | Mi fyddwn i | | Mi fyddwch chi | | Mi fyddan nhw | | Wyt ti'n hoffi siopa? | Do you like shopping? | | ydw / nac ydw | yes / no | | Lle byddi dti'n siopa fel arfer? | Where do you shop usually? | | Mi fydda i'n siopa yn yr archfarchnad. | I shop in the supermarket. | | Mi fydda i'n siopa yng nghanol y dre. | I shop in the town centre. | | Mi fydda i'n siopa y farchnad. | I shop in the market. | Cofiwch - mae treiglad meddal ar ôl berf yn y gorffennol, ar ôl 'o', ac ar ôl 'ga i?'Remember - there is a soft mutation after a verb in the past tense, after 'o', and after 'ga i ?'You will sometimes see Ga i written as Gaf i. Both forms have the same meaning, but Ga i is more common in spoken Welsh.
Dillad ddillad bara fara pys bys moron foron tusw dusw| Gest ti fargen? | Did you have a bargain? | | Do, mi ges i lawer o fargeinion. | Yes, I had a lot of bargains. | | Naddo, ches i ddim bargeinion. | No, I didn't have any bargains. |
Mae 'siop' yn fenywaidd (feminine), felly dan ni'n treiglo y gair nesaf (we mutate the following word). Edrychwch ar yr enghreifftiau hyn - look at these examples: | Siop fara | Baker's | | Siop ddillad | clothes shop | | Siop lyfrau | book shop | | Siop lysiau | greengrocer's | | Siop bysgod | fishmonger | | Siop bapur newydd | newsagent's | | Siop deganau | toy shop | | Siop fferins | Sweet shop | | Siop anifeiliaid anwes | Pet shop | | Dw i'n mynd i'r siop fara. | I'm going to the baker's. | We use dw i'n mynd i' when talking about the shops above. But, when the shop refers to a person we say 'dw i'n mynd at'. Er enghraifft - for example:| Mi fydda i'n mynd at y cigydd. | I'm going to the butcher's | | Mi fydda i'n mynd at y fferyllydd. | I'm going to the farmacist. | | Mi fydda i'n mynd at y crydd. | I'm going to the cobbler's. |
