Meals

In Welsh the three main meals of the day are:

BrecwastBreakfast
CinioLunch
SwperSupper

If we want to ask someone what they like to eat for these meals we say:

Be' dach chi'n hoffi i frecwast? What do you like for breakfast?

Or, in the more informal way, "Be' wyt ti'n hoffi i frecwast?"

Be' wyt ti'n hoffi i frecwast? What do you like for breakfast?
Be' wyt ti'n hoffi i ginio? What do you like for lunch?
Be' wyt ti'n hoffi i swper? What do you like for supper?

  • Notice that there is a soft mutation after the 'i'. Brecwast becomes frecwast and cinio becomes ginio. For help your mutations, click on the toolbox button.

  • You could reply:
Dw i'n hoffi tost i frecwast.I like toast for breakfast.
Dw i'n hoffi brechdanau i ginio.I like sandwiches for lunch.
Dw i'n hoffi pasta i swper.I like pasta for supper.
