Unit 16: Basic Commands

1. When saying go 'to' somewhere, use 'i', e.g. Cerwch i'r gwaith. However, when saying go to a person, you need to use 'at', e.g. Cerwch at y deintydd.

2. Here is a list of some common commands, given in pairs with the 'ti' first.

Eistedda - Eisteddwch - Sit!
Ffonia - Ffoniwch - Phone!
Cer - Cerwch - Go!
Tro - Trowch - Turn!
Dere - Dewch - Come!
Paid... - Peidiwch... - Don't...!

3. There are slight (acceptable) variations with commands. Some Welsh speakers use â after peidio, e.g. Paid â mynd, Peidiwch â gadael, but many leave it out in speech.

South Walians often use the word 'becso' - to worry - but you could just as well hear the word 'poeni'.
