Unit 11: Discussing The Past - Part Two

Scene 1
1. Remember to pronounce the ending in words like Codais as Codes.

2. With regular past tense verbs, you need to know what the stem of the verb is, and then you can add the ending. For example, Codi (to get up). The stem is Cod__ , so, just add the -ais ending, and you can say 'I got up' = Codais i.

Scene 2
1. There is a treiglad meddal (soft mutation) at the beginning of a closed question, e.g. did you enjoy the film = Fwynheuoch chi'r ffilm? (from mwynhau)

2. This is an example of a regular verb in the past. Siarad = to speak.

Siaradais i = I spoke
Siaradaist ti = You spoke
Siaradodd e = He spoke
Siaradodd hi = She spoke
Siaradon ni = We spoke
Siaradoch chi = You spoke
Siaradon nhw = They spoke

The units so far have only covered some of these, but this list (and the endings) may be useful.

Scene 3
1. Notice in the final scene, Ed uses mynd with â - this means to take. So, 'Aeth Geraint â fi' - Geraint took me; Also, he uses dod with â - this means to bring. So, 'Daeth Marian â fi adre' - Marian brought me home.
