UCAS points and Key Skills
UCAS has a
tariff system for entry qualifications to Higher Education. This includes GCE Advanced,
AS levels, AVCE and Key Skills.
The current university points tariff is a single system of points to cover post-16 qualifications
in England and Wales. Each qualification - GCE Advanced, AS level, AVCE and Key Skills fits into the points
tariff system.
Some universities will allow you to use all your qualifications, including AS and Key Skills,
as part of your total points score. However, the majority prefer most or all of their points requirements to come from a full GCE Advanced, i.e.
an AS and an A2.
Use the UCAS website at www.ucas.com to find the individual
requirements for each course. Most will ask for the number of points from six-unit qualifications; i.e. an AS plus an A2 or six-unit AVCE.
Some will ask for a 'core' of points from six-unit qualifications, with an additional amount made up of AS and Key Skills.
