Example letter of application - school leaver

Mrs M Lloyd
Director of Human Resources
Glamorgan Hospital
Corporation Road
Llantrisant
Glamorgan

Dear Mrs Lloyd

I would like to apply for the position of trainee catering assistant advertised in yesterday’s ‘Mid Wales Observer’.

I am 16 years old and in my final year at Llantrisant Comprehensive School. I have just completed a GNVQ Intermediate Part One in Hospitality and Catering and in June I will be taking GCSE exams in English, mathematics, Welsh, religious studies and science. Earlier this year I spent two weeks work experience in the Nice ‘n Tasty vegetarian café in town which I thoroughly enjoyed. While I was there I helped the owner to prepare salads and quiches, serve customers and clean the kitchen and café area.

I have also helped to serve food and drink at school parents’ evenings and governors’ meetings. At school I play for the school netball team and help run the school shop. My other interests are going to music gigs and yoga.

I would like to work for the hospital catering service because it offers training leading to NVQs and because I think that providing good food to hospital patients is a worthwhile job.

For references please contact Miss G Williams, Head of Home Economics, Llantrisant Comprehensive School, Park Road, Llantrisant, LL4 6YP and Mr S Morgan, Nice ‘n Tasty Café, High Street, Llantrisant, LL1 5ZY. I am available for interview at any time.

Your sincerely

CERI JONES
