Week 31 - Main grammatical points
Commands Jenny and Arwyn, in the initial scene on the boat, use a number of command forms. Lets have a look at them:
Helpa fi - Help me Twla fe - Throw it Canolbwyntia - Concentrate
These three forms illustrate the regular form for second person singular commands Generally -a is added to the stem of the verb:
edrych - edrycha gwylio - gwylia brysio - brysia gwrando - gwranda meddwl - meddylia
And as in the dialogue
helpu - helpa twlu - twla canolbwyntio - canolbwyntia
Note that some verbs merely use the stem of the verb
Dal yn dynn is what Jenny urges Arwyn
Other verbs have irregular forms. Arwyn says: Dere! Dere! - Come! Come! This is the South Wales form.Jenny however shouts Tyd, Tyd Tyd or Tyrd being the North Wales form.
