    National League club Woking have signed former Gillingham defender Shadrach Ogie on a two-year contract.

    The 24-year-old's three-year stay at Gillingham came to an end earlier this summer when his contract expired.

    Woking director of football Jody Brown told the club website, external that former boss Jermain Defoe "played a big part in identifying and attracting the player to the club before his departure" and said former Leyton Orient man Ogie is "a great fit for what we're building at the club".

    Woking have put Craig Ross and Jake Hyde in interim charge of the first team for a second spell following Jermain Defoe's exit.

    The National League side and former England international Defoe "mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect" on Thursday, two weeks before the start of the new season.

    Player/goalkeeping coach Ross and fellow coach Hyde, who retired as a player at the end of last season, will oversee first-team operations before Woking's opening league match at home to Sutton United on 8 August.

    The pair took interim charge in March following the sacking of Neal Ardley and led Woking to four wins, while their only defeat was away at eventual champions York City.

    Director of football Jody Brown told the club website:, external "Craig and Jake have been an important part of this football club for a long time.

    "They'll do everything to ensure the group gets to where it needs to be for the start of the season, providing the leadership and continuity we need."
