The people of Stoke-on-Trent have long-needed a recognisable place to view and experience contemporary art. And what's more, the artists of the city have been desperate for a permanent space to exhibit and see the work of their peers. On 20 July 2007, Airspace art gallery re-opened on Broad Street in the cultural quarter of Hanley. Internationally renowned artist Paul Rooney was the special guest, attending the private view of the first show. Airspace foundersAirspace was originally set-up by local artists David Bethel and Andrew Branscombe in 2006 and was located on Old Town Road just outside the city centre of Hanley. The move to the new venue has been an important venture for the gallery team. Not only does it provide a new contemporary art gallery but it also provides the catalyst for the development of more studio and gallery spaces in the city.
