Looking for Love ... Later on

By Hayley Esgate
Ever considered a blind date? How about looking for someone on the internet? If first impressions are important to you, you'll be reaching for the little 'x' right about now, so I'll try a different angle. Have you ever been tempted to Speed Date?

For people who struggle with finding that special someone, meeting new potential better halves, or for those of us who even get flustered attempting the odd chat up line, the thought of being setup with someone we've never clapped eyes on can leave us quivering at the knees and heading for the door. If you have ever searched through the dating section of the local newspaper or ventured onto the internet, you will surely be aware of how people describe themselves and maybe how inaccurately their perceptions are. So what's the answer …?

Well, seeing as though love and companionship have been around for quite some time, you'd have thought that there would be thousands of safe and easy ways to meet your ideal ‘partner’. Obviously not.

However, there is a way that springs to mind which is safe, easy and fun. And yes you can bring your sidekick!

Speed dating seems to be becoming more and more popular these days. It's not really surprising either; you can take a friend or two, there are no build ups or self descriptions (and so no let downs), you get to meet lots of candidates and each chat lasts minutes, in which case you're not stuck with what could be the same boring person for hours! Also, the pressure of having to ‘let someone down gently’ at the end of the date is gone, as no-one ever has to know what you thought about them.

To find out more I decided to interrogate the source of ‘the new way to date’, Sarah, the organiser of regular speed dating events held in Crewe.
